Lines: 30 Although private ownership of Class III weapons is legal in most states, there are a number in which private ownership is not legal. I'm not sure of the numbers, but I think there are approximately a dozen states that ban such ownership; I can add Illinois to the list of states that ban private ownership. Uzi does manufacture both a submachine gun and a semiautomatic rifle. There is another difference between the two in addition to the barrel-length variation mentioned by Sunny Kirsten, and that difference lies in the bolt/bolt carrier group. The Uzi semiautomatic rifle, legal to own wherever other rifles can be legally owned, cannot be 'easily converted' to a 'machine gun' as some buffoon has stated in this newsgroup; the BATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms) boys insure that such conversion is * not * easy * before permitting importation into this country. Since the postings to this subject from the proponents of gun control have left the impression that ANYbody, ANYwhere can buy ANY damn kind of a weapon they want, or convert some firearm into a 'machine gun', I wonder if any of them are willing to actually read the available legal material on gun ownership and the morass of complicated and sometimes conflicting laws at federal, state, and local levels?
