You always find them asleep, except in party rooms and when under the influence of aggravate monsters (ring or scroll). When you find them, don't attack on impulse. Instead, clear the room of other monsters so they don't get in your way, move the greatest possible distance in the room from the beast, perhaps in a doorway, and use thrown weapons (arrows, shurikens, daggers, or whatever; be careful of darts, they do practically no damage) to at least soften him up. If you can get more than three hits into him, depending on what you're throwing, you will most probably win. Ken
