The tracks for Let It Be were recorded quite a bit earlier, and languished in the tape vaults for a while. George Martin gave up trying to turn the tapes into an album, at least in partial frustration with disagreements on mixes, added instrumentation, etc., mostly with John. Phil Spector ended up accepting the "challenge", and ended up with an album that differed quite a bit (especially on some of Paul's songs) from the original concept of "the Beatles - Live (or at least in a couple of takes)" Bob Schleicher ihuxk!rs55611 AT&T Bell Laboratories
