In fact, in the old days when names were used in the exchanges, the predominant third digits of an exchange were actually whatever the third letter would have been. Using the Baltimore example, HOpkins 7 is the same as HOPkins ( 7= PRS ); PLaza 2 == PLAza ( 2= ABC ); MAdison 3 ; FOrest 7.
