Senator William Proxmire, from Wisconsin, was so fed up with
government waste, particularly with govenment funding of research,
that he began the Golden Fleece Awards for outrageous spending.

Actually, I find the GF awards amusing, until I realize that I'm
paying Proxmire's salary, and that he has *much* power when it comes
to allocating research funding.

Of the GF's I've seen, some of them are deserved, but many of them do little
more than illustrate that Proxmire doesn't understand pure research.
