The following copy of a letter was found in the
White House trash the other day.

Dear Mr Hinckly;

I just wanted to write to you and say that, after some thought, I
feel that want to say that I forgive you for trying to kill me.
I know that you were under much stress and therefore not
responsible for your actions.  I hope that you are able to
understand that Nancy and I hold no ill will against you and
that you will soon be free to rejoin society.  I will even
make such a reccomendation to the Justice Department in
your behalf.
