I think it's a bit silly. I was shocked by the incident, and I have the greatest sympathy for people related to the victims, but: 1. How many million people live in the SD area? How many of them knew any victims? I mean, why not black out los Angeles too? 2. If I were killed in such an event, (and were "around" to get people's after reactions) I wouldn't mind people making jokes about it. After all, they're not laughing at me. 3. people don't make those jokes because they're insensitive. They make them as a response to helplessness in the face of shock.
