There is some newer work being done on using typing (yup) in Smalltalk to aid in open coding message passing. If done, this would result in a new version of the language (Smalltalk-85?) which might run on conventional processors. Apple produced a version of Smalltalk for the Lisa, but it was so abominably slow that it was never released as a product (Apple is probably not interested in doing much aside from building MacIntoshes nowadays).
