I've changed my mind about a couple of things in that posting, so here they are: In 'keeping the drive cool' hint no. 4, I mentioned tilting the bridge rectifers towards the back of the unit for airflow, and to keep the small electroytics near them cool. I keep the plastic top cover off my drive when using it (more because of paranoia than because it's actually necessary), and after looking at the location of the cooling vents in the top cover, I have decided that if the top cover is on, it is NOT a good idea to tilt the recifiers, as this will probably result in less rectifier cooling rather than more. When I mentioned lubricating the hub clamp washers, I said that 'I used a tiny quantity of light high-quality grease; probably not the best choice actually'. I used Lubriplate grease, more because I had it lying around the house, rather than because of any inherent wonderfulness. I have decided that maybe a 'wet' lubricant is preferable to a dry one; the grease will catch and hold any further metal dust scraped off the washers. Also, it might help to take a fine file and file down the edge of the spring a bit to kelp keep it from biting into the washers. I haven't done this, but will try it if/when I have to de-squeak the drive again. Gary Hanson Tektronix IDG
