As per my previous article, you might realize that I don't consider the Hayes smart! I'm especially, but not exclusively, interested in modems that have the smarts to realize when a line is busy, ringing, or has a dialtone. I'm also interested in cheap. There seems to be a new class of modems coming available that use LSI technology to implement all of these functions at less than half the price of the typical 1200 baud modem a few years ago. Anyway, here is a list of modems that I have come upon recently in magazines and in conversations. I'm interested in any personal experience with any of these or with any other modems in this class: Rixon Signalman Ven-tel U.S. Robotics Racal-Vadic >>>> Gary Samad {decvax!genrad,ihnp4}!mit-eddie!gary Please send many responses so that I may summarize to the net!
