He found out, as I did, that none of the standard DOS utilities will touch non-DOS areas. (I had set up a Venix partition that I wanted remove for a while.) The only way I know to reformat a non-DOS area is to use the IBM Advanced Diagnostics, which includes a hard disk format program.
