But I caught her on HBO (and was glad I didn't purchase the album). I think several things happened. 1) She has been working technically on her voice. It shows and it is a nice voice. 2) She never could act. When doing loud popular songs, all you have to do is belt. And if you aren't a technically proficient singer, you tend to put a lot of emotion into it to cover up the technical deficiencies. Now that she has solved them, she is concentrating too much on the technique and too little on the meaning and impact of the songs. This would improve if she could learn to act. Also, I noticed you could hear every intake of breath even when she had plenty of time to breath. It's not noticeable with electric guitars backing her up. But it drove me to distraction.
