It seems there really is an international standard for 2400 baud dialup async modems, VIS something or other (anybody know the number?) and that at least two modems, the Concord and the AT&T 2224, support it. (I'm sure lots of others do too.) Linus is already using the Concord, so we do have a precedent. I have heard good things about the AT&T modem, but don't know any details yet. We're probably going to get some for evaluation. I think the bottom line is that if you want to go out and get a 2400 baud modem for UUCP/News, make sure it uses the standard protocol, and you're safe. Mark
