It was worth it. Talk about background info -- I've read about 1/5 of the pages and it's just about getting to where the movie starts!! Kirk strikes out with Carol Marcus, David & Saavik's torrid affair, re-visiting the original Genesis space lab and its hollowed-out planet, extra alien crew members, probing of everyone's emotions, an Irish wake on the Enterprise for the dead where everyone gets plowed.... wow, wait till the movie part starts! Wish some of the time wasted (my opinion) in the movie (Genesis earthquakes, fistfight, and Vulcan temple scenes) could have been put into the beginning. Are these novelizations done before, after, or during the finalization of the shooting script for the movie? Wish Nimoy had read the book first ... mike k
