Re Tom Baker: if there's one thing I've concluded about Mr. Baker, it's that he is an extremely complex and "eccentric" individual, about whom it's better not to make any hard-and-fast judgments at all...except that he's certainly interesting! He does seem to be very self-absorbed and introspective; also he seems to like children very much. I once read that he changes his phone number once a month or more, which I guess is certainly rather reclusive... Is it true that the Pertwee serials with black-and-white episodes won't be available for syndication??!! (as was reported on the net some time ago). Doctor Who Magazine doesn't seem to think so; recently they ran a bulletin to the effect that the one missing Pertwee episode (from "Invasion of the Dinosaurs") had been found, in black and white. And then they added that this meant that all of the Pertwee serials would be available for syndication, at last; they gave a list of all the serials--including "Frontier In Space"--which would have to be partially broadcast in b&w, and said that the BBC was planning to just preface those episodes with a short explanatory notice, or something like that. I hope that's true! By the way, that magazine (Doctor Who Monthly) has become a rather nice little affair- they used to be tacky and cheap-looking, no color pictures, lots of typos, etc., but recently it's become much more glossy and professional; it is a good source of reasonably up-to-date British information (and the pictures are pretty!) Here in the San Francisco area, we have two stations that carry Doctor Who: KTEH in San Jose and KQED in S.F. KTEH is marvelous; they show Baker, Davison, and Pertwee. Unfortunately, they can only be gotten on cable in most of the area (I have to watch every night at a friend's house). KQED, the area's major PBS station, is stuck in a time loop: they only show the "Key to Time" and "Logopolis" seasons, skipping almost all of the "City of Death" season (in fact, they're soon to drop Doctor Who altogether, the scum!).
