Pretty clearly the pros outweigh the cons.  ``Giving up a filesystem''?
That's a bogus argument.  The number of logical devices per physical
device is a function of the device driver (which is, of course, subject
to hacking). Certainly with the 4.2 FFS you're not worried about making
filesystems too large in any ensuing logical device size re-organization?
