I am not particularly familiar with the state of the current eyepiece art, but it seems to me that the two leading contenders in the middle-price range are Plossls and Koenigs. (No, I cannot afford to pay $150+ for a Nagler). I would appreciate any advice, recommendations, etc. that I could get on the following major points: 1) Merits of the various types and brands of eyepieces, 2) Reasonable ranges of magnification (I am currently leaning toward the purchase of a 12mm and 6mm first) and whether some types of eyepieces do better at high/low powers, 3) Importance of having a set of parfocal eyepieces, 4) Field of view, 5) Special performance issues given my telescope (which, I should point out, uses 1.25" eyepieces) and my predilection for observing nebula and other deep-sky objects, * * David Bryant AT&T Bell Laboratories * Columbus, OH 43213 * (614) 860-4516 * . : djb@cbosgd.UUCP cbosgd!djb@Berkeley.ARPA * *
