The 105 is their top of the line speaker, the ".4" indicating that it is now in its 4th generation. It was chosen a few years ago by the BBC to reproduce the sound of the organ in St. Mary's Cathedral (in Edinburgh, Scotland) in Usher Hall about a mile away. (The Usher Hall organ was unplayable at the time. Rather than repair it ....) They put 36 six of the speakers, each one fed by a Quad 405 amp, around the hall. I was living in Edinburgh at the time, and couldn't resist the spectacle, though I'm not wild about Berlioz' Te Deum. It came off well, very little electronic noise, and a LOT of good organ music. (KEF has a blurb about it in the March 84 Gramophone, p. 1119, if you want to know more.) Price: did you say $1400 a PAIR? If so, you're on to the absolutely best deal in sound anywhere. Grab 'em! If you said $1400 each, it's still not a bad price -- but listen around. Some of the domestic speakers, to my ears at least, sound better for the same money. Whatever, Good listening! Harold G.
