(For those unfamiliar with South Bend, their airport is slightly larger than Morristown. For those unfamiliar with Morristown, their airport is slightly smaller than South Bend.) Anyway, I started up, called for my instrument clearance, and, instead of the usual "clearance on request" or "advise when ready to copy," the ground controller responded with my entire clearance, all the way to Morristown (about 5 hours), at the speed of a tobacco auctioneer. Well, I'm pretty good at copying clearances, and this time I was right there. When the controller was finished, I read it back to him at the same fast tempo, and he responded with what must be the ultimate compliment: "Twin Cessna 46H, readback correct, taxi runway 27." I was feeling pretty good about it all until I started to taxi and discovered I had forgotten to untie the tail.
