<I'm not sure if i'm aware of my existence>

The book i was looking for about man just recently becoming aware of his
existence is: The Origin of Consciousness and the Breakdown of the
Bicameral Mind, by Julian Jaynes.

Thanks to the 8 people who responded to my query, and especially to Larry
West, who gave a little critique and pointed to another book along the
same lines: Minds, Genes and Culture.
