Easy fix:  put more padding in TrmVT100.c.  (Of course you have to have
source for that.)  Also, Emacs only recognizes certain strings as being
VT100s, and for others will use termcap.  If you're willing to put up
with not having line I/D, you could setenv TERM PaddedVT100 (instead of
setenv TERM VT100) and have a termcap for that with enough padding.
