I see you looked up "comprise".  Yes, it means "include".  Very good.
But let's dig out that compiler project.  I see grammar akin to the
function of the parser, spelling to that of the scanner.  The parser
is not the scanner, to be sure, and their functions may be disjoint.
But they are related--in a modern, parser-driven system, the
scanner is always at the beck and call of the parser, and in that sense
"comprised" by it.

The saga continues.  If the scanner doesn't work right, the parser
won't either.  In my experience, egregious spellers tend to garble the
language at both lexical and syntactic levels.  Most cannot think
clearly enough to tell the two apart.  Nor do they care.
