Oh, they can, all right. The advantage is that it is obvious that they are
working at getting drunk and a host who is watching for it (as I do) can
take steps to make sure that it doesn't get out of control. If people are
drinking various forms of hard alcohol (mixed and straight or whatever)
then it becomes much harder to watch for someone drinking an excessive
amount.
