The reason it went down then, after 2 months of faithful service is that the hard disk overheated (the system's owner was out of town and didn't expect the heat wave we had, left the air conditioner on low). It's also easy to start up. Press reset, the system comes up singleuser and runs the startup script, which waits for the root password or exits to multiuser on a blank line, runs fsck (is it -y? The thing assumes "y" to all questions), and goes multiuser. 5 minutes, tops, and all the knowledge you need is that of how to press the ENTER key on the console. Can VMS do that? How many PDP-11s or VAX-11s can be outperformed by a micro? Why drag up the weird-command-name issue?
