The awards would be more amusing if Proxmire wasn't a shortsighted ignoramus. Some of the things he's given awards to were quite legitimate (if somewhat odd-sounding) research projects. It's true that *some* of his awards have been justified, but his batting average is nowhere near 100%, and many think that he's done more harm than good.
