In response to your request for magic items, here are a few of my favorites:

1.  Potion of detoxification: will neutralize poison, intoxicants, and drugs.

2.  Dragon skin Scroll: Described in 'The Dragon' magazine. A single 1'x1'
			patch over the heart of the Dragon is used, enchanted,
			and inscribed with ONE spell. The scroll has a % 
			chance (I use 1% cumulative/spell level) chance
			of disappearing upon reading.

3.  Gloves of the Spider: Casts modified WEB spell, allows SPIDER CLIMB.

4.  Random's Hat: This takes a couple years to make, but employs only the
		  Mage or Illusionist spell MAGIC MOUTH. The spells may be
		  cast in such a way as to determine general direction
		  (up,down,left,right,front,back) and monster type. The 
		  theory of operation is that if I am wearing the hat, and
		  pass above an Ankheg, a mouth will say "ANKHEG DETECTED",
		  followed by a second mouth which says "IN FRONT", and a
		  third mouth will say "BELOW". For common monsters this
		  is a waste of time, but the applications are numerous.

5.  Hat of Comfort: A perversion of Tensers Floating Disk, this hat projects
		    a field above the wearer and protects against all liquids
		    from above (and it extends to the shoulder level, so thrown
		    liquids will only hit below this line.).

6.  Crystal Communicators: Two 'tuned' crystal eggs. Acts as Walkie-Talkie.
			   User must be within 5' range for audio transmission,
			   touch for video. Duration dependant
			   on Planar difference. Classically refered to as an
			   Ansible.
