Lines: 16 I must cast my vote with those who believe that having fun is the most important goal of FRP, and not being 'fair' or being 'fair to the monsters'. I use dice rolls only for unimportant decisions, and feel that with enough preparation no dice rolling by the DM is truly necessary. If a campaign is fun, if players get up from the game and are glad they spent their time playing with you, then you are a successful DM. Even if a player's character is worse off after a session, a good player will know that there is always next time, and can enjoy a session for its excitment, imagery, and atomosphere. After all, characters in books fall on hard times and usually come out ahead, and FRP is very much like being in a novel, with the DM unfolding the plot before your very eyes.
