It is a short verse, with a very specific meter and rhyme pattern. It doesn't have to be dirty, but they are usually (at least intended to be) humorous. As an example (to justify posting to this group, and to show some ignorant folks what a limerick is): There once was a man from Nantucket, Who kept all his cash in a bucket. His daughter, named Nan, Ran away with a man, And, as for the bucket, Nan-tucket. THAT is a limerick. Gary Samuelson
