Briefly, LMN stands for Lost Music Network, and each OP issue consists of independent music reportage relating to a given letter of the alphabet. July/August is "X": Iannis Xenakis, Xena, X-mal Deutschland, plus ringer articles on rockabilly women, David Thomas (of Pere Ubu), Slim "Flat Foot Floogie" Galliard, and the Japanese new wave scene. It's definitely a "dense" rag, and you won't put a dent in it unless you are pretty serious about noncommercial, third world, and "Martian" music. A featured columnist, until his passing, was an 80-year-old guy in a nursing home who ran down his wacky, but unpretentious impressions of everyone from Velvet Underground to Gene Vincent. Largely reader-written, there's a nice fanzine review section, as well as event listings and the de rigueur plethora of capsule album summaries. Plus free flexi-disc. Have fun with the soon-to-be out-of-print OP, no longer a well-kept little secret of musicrits. Write to: Lost Music Network P.O. Box 2391 Olympia, WA 98507 "Y" & "Z" both $3, back issues available. -- James A. Woods {dual,hplabs,hao,research}!ames-lm!jaw (jaw@riacs.ARPA)
