Lines: 32 I can only feel sad when I read David Whitney's rebuttal article in which he claims that any movie that offers more than just "pure entertainment" is designed to "cram Hollywood's version of reality down people's throats". I can make guesses that David thinks ANY interesting artistic effort with some substance that goes beyond just entertainment is 'snob-class pretentious garbage' (unfortunately, this is a wide-spread attitude common in America), or that perhaps he is not of the "know-nothing" breed I describe above, and perhaps is quite well-read, but that he thinks of movies as solely being devoted to entertainment and not the realm of serious work. ("It's a movie, not a piece of literature" sounds like "It's pop, not *real* music!" type of argument to me). But these would only be guesses in any case. I think, however, that as an outgrowth of Mr. Diehm's original posting and Mr. Whitney's replies, we have come across a goldmine the likes of which we may never encounter again. Mr. Diehm has a high level of despisal for fluff movies (as he might call them), and Mr. Whitney has an equal level of disdain for pretentious (as he would call them) films. What better pair could you come up with to do the net's version of Sneak Previews???? Think about it. Two diametrically opposed individuals both reviewing films. Diehm gives a film four stars, Whitney gives it none. We all know immediately what to expect from the film: an inquisitive film about the nature of humanity thats shoves its disgusting opinions at you and puts you to sleep. Diehm gives a film no stars, Whitney gives it four. Aha! A fun film for everyone, enjoyable entertainment, with enough real quality to fill a microthimble. They both give a film four stars!! What does this mean? Who knows? This is only semi-frivolous. -- WHAT IS YOUR NAME? Rich Rosen WHAT IS YOUR NET ADDRESS? pyuxn!rlr WHAT IS THE CAPITAL OF ASSYRIA? I don't know that ... ARGHHHHHHHH!
