Although he lacks a little of the power that most world-class Romantic pianists can display (and do display, in most of my other 8 recordings of the Liszt sonata), his playing has a sparkle to it that I have rarely heard anywhere, which makes much of his playing a special joy. Smetona is at his inimitable best at some of the lighter moments of the Liszt sonata; his Chopin and Rachmaninoff are quite beautiful and original as well. I highly recommend him. I'd appreciate private Email from others who have heard him. - Toby Robison (not Robinson!) allegra!eosp1!robison decvax!ittvax!eosp1!robison
