There are, apparantly, three: Racal Vadic, Codex, and Concord Data Systems. All are compatible with each other (and with Bell 224 (?) standard and an X. standard) as I understand it. The R-V modem is difficult to obtain, and is twice the price of the others, so forget it for the moment. Now, does anyone have any comparisons of the features of the other two (or others which may have popped up)? Secondly, is anyone actually using them for uucp mail/news yet? We might be interested in a news link with someone in a logically far corner of the net to us, in order to get some of the stuff we seem to miss, and to short out some of the long delays we see from here. The pendulum swings both ways, of course, so we would be willing to split costs or some such. The saving using the 2400 baud modems, batching (we use Peter Gross' bnproc batching) and data compression might make it palatable to our management. Any responses welcomed. -- Lyle McElhaney (hao,brl-bmd,nbires,csu-cs,scgvaxd)!denelcor!lmc
