All we have to do is send out an rmgroup, get the backbone sites to remove it and create a mode 444 file /usr/spool/news/net/general, and encourage all other news admins to do the same. That will kill it. I don't deny that there is a need for some channel to carry all that traffic. But since the value of that traffic is pretty low (from a readers point of view) that channel should NOT be in the default subscription list, and right now all.general is in the default. Changing the default would require everyone on the net to make the change, and experience has shown that half of them won't. Frankly, net.misc and net.wanted are the obvious places for the traffic. Suitably subdivided, of course. Mark
