The original reason for considering a child of a Jewish mother Jewish and not a Jewish father, was that you always knew who the mother was (ie. Jewish), but were never 100% sure who the father was. But today technique's are becoming available so as to tell who the father is (that is, if you are given a choice). Therefore, when these techniques are wide-spread then it shouldn't make a difference which parent is Jewish
