Here's an extreme example:  around 20 years ago, the U. of Buffalo was
considering relocating.  The big decision was whether to move to the
city or the suburbs.  Public opinion was generally for the city, so
were the faculty and students.  But -- the secretaries were for the
suburbs!  And that, folks, settled it.  I'm writing this in the dreary
suburb of Amherst, N.Y.
