A couple weeks ago, one of our friendly net contributors made a remark about women seeking men who had good jobs, etc., which led to him/her getting several flames. I do not remember who posted the original article (if it's more than six articles in the past, I forget the whole thing - 2.9bsd gives me a sick headache). In any case, at the time I read that posting, I thought this idea was in error because this sort of thing had never happened to me personally. I had never been rated (verbally to my face) in any manner which could be construed as to causing me to think I was a piece of meat rather than a for-real-live-human being. Well, folks, now it has happened, and from a source I never would have expected. I was haunting one of our local cowboy bars this weekend and saw some rather attractive ladies huddled across the room. I thought they looked real familiar, so eventually I wandered over to verify that I knew these people. They were a group who had attended a social gathering at my house a month ago. That party was the first time I had met these ladies, but I thought them to be possessed of reasonably high intelligence and knew them to hold positions in the community which gave them some esteem and status which was above average. I would never have expected to meet them in a dive like where I was, but they commented the same about me. Let us say that we were all out slumming that night. So what's the point? Well, we were discussing cowboy bars and cowgirls and all that BS and I made one of those tacky remarks about this one gal's boots and that "fer shure, I wuz in luv" (with heavy fake accent - no doubt here that I was joking). The lady to whom the remark was directed blushed slightly and to her friend I said, "Now she'll think I'm a chauvinistic cowboy and never trust me..." (again, the tone of voice is jesting). The reply I got was straight and dead serious: "Not at all. We've been to your house. You drive a sports car and have a good job and great income. We think that on a scale of 1 to 10, you're a 12." Not a word about personality. Not a word about me as a person. I was being rated by the income and material possessions. I flamed the original poster because I didn't believe women really rated men this way. Whoever you were, I AM SORRY. Rich not too old to learn new tricks
