They use the power of peer pressure which is pretty powerful especially to the kind of person who is likely to attend such things. Example: (Essilon (sp) who offer a money back guarantee) At the end of the introductory session they offer you your one and only chance to leave and get you money back. To do so you have to get up in front of all the attendees who have just been pumped up about the time plans ahead and walk out of the auditorium. The techniques they use (so I was told by a psychologist) are recognised brainwashing techniques as are the those used by the military in boot camp.
