If for some reason (cost, location, or whatever) you can't find something of interest at a nearby university, look into offerings by the adult education department of your local public schools. Many of them offer very good, interesting, inexpensive classes in a WIDE variety of areas, from coed volleyball to tips on buying your first house. If you pick the right classes, you're virtually guaranteed to find people who share your interests. In the worst case, you've learned something new.
