	Quite true.  If you walk up to a native Bostonian and say "Hello!",
he/she may assume that you are a "Moonie", Scientologist, random 
proselytizer, or other con-person.  It's just the way we are, and the
recent spate of stories about a friendly con-man operating out of local
hospitals just reinforces our social conditioning.  I try to be nice to 
tourists, though, so ya'll come here and support our economy!
