Going into tonight, the NL East was 3 games ahead of the West. The AL East is 29 games ahead of the West. We'll now have a month or so of inter-divisional play, so we can get a better statistical base. I would hardly call the Cardinals of '82 a team which "just got lucky for a couple of games in the playoffs." They did win 94 games, which is not sensational, but respectable. The Mets of '73 come to mind; didn't they win just 83 games? If I were in the bottom of the 9th with two outs and the bases loaded, I'd much rather have Boggs up than Jackson or Morgan, if I needed one or two runs. If I needed 4, I'd probably rather have Jackson. What should the Yankees do to win? Find new ownership. -- --Bruce Nemnich, Thinking Machines Corporation, Waltham, MA {astrovax,cca,escher,ihnp4,ima,mit-eddie,...}!godot!bruce, BJN@MIT-MC.ARPA
