If it were, we might as well nuke everything! :-) It provides a forum for expressing opinions as well as rational argument. I also disagree that discussing suicide directly is the only raison d'etre for net.suicide. There have been lots of discussions of related topics, such as psychology or (particluarly) depression. In fact, a couple of weeks ago, my girlfriend dumped me and I was very depressed about it for a few days. During that time, I posted an article here just saying that I was very depressed and wanted some sympathy, etc. from the net. The response to that article was overwhelming. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who responded. I got over 35 messages. And one new very close friend. In actual fact, I think it was one of the most beneficial (for me) uses of the net I have ever made. I got lots more support from the folks in this group than from my friends here (most of whom thought I should never have been with this woman in the first place, but that's another issue). For the record, I feel much better now, and the incredible outpouring of support from the folks in this newsgroup is one big reason for it, especially the above-mentioned one in particular. Thanks one and all (pun intended :-) In conclusion, my reply to you is, if you don't like it, unsubscribe. At least one person finds a very legitimate and helpful use for this group. Thanks again, folks. --Greg -- {ucbvax!hplabs | allegra!nbires | decvax!stcvax | harpo!seismo | ihnp4!stcvax} !hao!woods "... brave the storm to come, for it surely looks like rain" NUKE NET.GENERAL!!!
