One of the neatest ideas I have seen to control a camera used a terminal's
internal "bell". You can either acoustically couple to the bell (using
a sound activated switch) or you can build a little circuit which detects
when the bell is being stimulated. The latter is probably a better idea
if someone has to work while you are taking pictures.

The result? For a couple hours of work you can drive your camera!
You might even be able to find an accessory for your camera which
is acoustically triggered.
