Getty now leaves the expand-tabs bit off if the terminal is not a hardcopy terminal and the termcap entry indicates the presence of hardware tabs. Furthermore, getty now handles both the "is" and "if" capabilities properly, to initialize tabs. Hardcopy terminals are exempt from "if" for safety reasons, since tab-setting on some hardcopy terminals involves sudden violent motion of the printhead.
