Of course, I can't say how it compares with high end decks. However, if you were considering one of those, you wouldn't be building a mid-priced system. The SL-P7 has no fancy options, which is the probable reason for the relatively reasonable price. The features it does have allow you to perform the same functions you are used to having with turntables, control over the positioning of the "tone arm" and pausing, but with greater ease. For the price you quoted, $375, I`d say that it's a good choice. A number of fancier features can be had for about $200 or so more with the SL-P8. According to Audio magazine, the performance of the two decks is identical. -- Dave Allen
