The definitive technical reference on how CD's are encoded as well as a great deal of additional information on the Phillips method of compact disc playback, (as opposed to the Sony method) is given in the Phillips Technical Review, Vol 40, No 6. This should be available in any technical library and answer all your questions. I have also mailed to you a copy of two earlier tutorial postings that I placed on the net describing the encoding/decoding process as well as considerations on the two filtering processes.
