I'm interested in transglobal airport-hopping, not the nonstop marathons like Mr. Rutan wants to do. Some questions that have come to mind: - What's the best route? We've thought about Near Island, Alaska to northern Japan as a Pacific crossing route (1500 miles over water, just outside Soviet airspace) and Edinburgh, Scotland - Rekyavik, Iceland - Cape Farewell, Greenland - St. John's Newfoundland (three 850 mile legs) as an Atlantic crossing. - How large should the crew be? We're thinking of 3 pilots and 1 mechanic. - What planes are recommended for this type of flying? A popular, 6-8 passenger twin modified to carry more fuel? - What provisions, spare parts, first-aid and rescue gear should be included. - What are good resources for finding out about international air regulations, airport services, radio freqs, landing fees, customs regulations and so on?
