Are the supporters/organizers just trying to put the maximun strain on the participants? Why not have it in the Spring or Fall? (I could see avoiding spring rain, but the Fall, before snowfall in the Rockies causes problems, sounds like a much better time. For that matter, it could start in the West, so they get through the Rockies as early as possible, and thus be scheduled as late as weather there permits, allowing much cooler riding across the Midwest and East.) So is there a rational reason for imposing summer heat on the riders, or is somebody just being mean to them? Will
