Asgard has one BIG thing going for it that we don't: Magic. When you're as powerful as Odin or his "sons" and "daughters", then who needs machines? Magic isn't an answer to everything, but the culture they have is (partially) a result of the fact that they have magic and (to some extent) have not felt a need for machines.
