Lockheed's first appearance (in fictional form, much bigger, with an irish accent) was in the excellent X-Men #153, Kitty's fairy tale. This annual was an attempt at the same thing, and didn't work at all - unless Chris is trying to demonstrate that Illyana can't tell a story worth a da*n. Kitty found Lockheed (or vice versa) on the Brood Homeworld, and thought he had died with it. He turned up again back on earth, saving her from some leftover nasties (Sidri, I think). In the Secret Wars he falls in love with a lady dragon much bigger than himself, unless Shooter forgets to do it. It's obvious Lockheed is very intelligent, and very omnivorous (He eats sentient beings, or at least their eggs, in addition to whatever he normally feeds on). Perhaps he's the current focus of the Phoenix, or am I just being obsessive? :-) Lockheed doesn't appear in the Magik limited series, but it's well worth getting for the insight into Illyana. Cat may be of interest, too, as a killer version of Kitty - of special interest to those following the Wolverine & Kitty Limited Series (which I recommend).
