I was in Europe for six weeks traveling on tight budget but had plenty of emergency traveler's checks. I never had a problem cashing the checks in England or on the continent. Usually some from of ID was required (passport) to cash them. When I arrived back home, the first thing that I did after unpacking was to go across the street to my local 7-ll. Well I think you can guess what happened. After six weeks of having no problems with my American Express checks, no form of ID was going to get those friendly folks to accept my check, even though I lived straight across the street!
